Groupe SNEF
History
The Snef group, formerly Société Nouvelle Electric Flux, dates back to 1905, when Fernand Aubert took an interest in a small Marseille electrical firm, which became Société Electric Flux in 1909. It specialised in maritime and industrial work and gained approval from the French Navy in 1912.
Bought in 1944 by Maurice Jauffret, the company refocused on maritime and port activities. In 1955 a merger with Société Générale Électromécanique created SNEF, which opened branches in several French ports and went international in 1977 with a subsidiary in Abu Dhabi.
Diversifying into the service sector and telecoms from the 1980s, the company became Groupe SNEF in 1997 and expanded abroad (Romania, Brazil, Cameroon). Headquartered in Marseille, it had about 13,000 employees in some thirty countries in 2021.
