Methodology
How every statistic on Sillage is defined, and the minimum sample under which a value is greyed out. The figures are computed from the results in the directory, never entered by hand.
Principles
- Only finished editions count, for published races and boats.
- Ranks are compared within a division: same edition, same class.
- A boat's statistics cover every name it raced under.
- In a two-handed race, both skippers get the result; crew members of crewed races have no statistics.
- Every value shows its sample; below the threshold it is greyed out, and left out of top rankings.
Definitions
- Starts
- The number of races started, in finished editions. Non-starters (withdrawn, did not start) are not counted.
- Wins
- First place in a division: same edition, same class.
- Podiums
- One of the first three places in a division: same edition, same class.
- Finish rate
- Finishes (outside the time limit included) divided by starts. A disqualified boat counts as a start, not as a finish.
- Retirements
- The boat started but did not finish the race (DNF).
- Pathway
- The classes a skipper has raced, in the order of the first start in each (e.g. Mini, Figaro, Class40, IMOCA).
- Adjusted finish rate
- The lower bound of the 95 % confidence interval (Wilson) of the finish rate: 1 finish out of 1 start gives 21 %, not 100 %. Greyed out under 5 starts.
- Percentile
- Position among the classified boats of the division: 100 % for the winner, 0 % for the last. Retirements are not ranked.
- Mean performance
- The mean of the percentiles of the classified results. Greyed out under 3 classified results.
- Gap to the winner
- Official time minus the division winner's, relative to the winner's time: +5 % means 5 % slower.
- Generation
- The median percentile of the other boats of the same generation in the same race.
- Longevity
- Years from launch to the last start, with the starts, names carried and skippers.
- 1st–10th spread
- Time between the 1st and 10th finisher of a class. Only with at least 10 timed finishers.
- Mean boat age
- Mean age of the starting boats, in years since their launch.
- Winner's time
- Official time of the winner of each class. The curve breaks when the course distance changes.
- Sillage rating
- A Glicko-2 rating computed per class over every edition: each result counts as duels against the rest of the fleet. Starts at 1,500; provisional while its deviation is above 110.
- Best rating

- Rating change
- A Glicko-2 rating computed per class over every edition: each result counts as duels against the rest of the fleet. Starts at 1,500; provisional while its deviation is above 110.
- Miles raced
- The theoretical distance of each race finished, added up.
- Winner's age
- The youngest or oldest finisher or winner of a race, by age at the start. Only with birth dates known to the day.
- Retirement causes
- The boat started but did not finish the race (DNF).
- Age record
- The youngest or oldest finisher or winner of a race, by age at the start. Only with birth dates known to the day.
