Nautical mile
Also called: Mille nautique, mille, milles, nm, M, mile
The unit of distance at sea: 1,852 metres.
The nautical mile corresponds to one minute of latitude, so distances can be read straight off the scale of a chart. It is 1,852 m, not to be confused with the statute mile (1,609 m).
