Rig
Also called: Gréement, gréement dormant, gréement courant, rigging
The mast, its boom and all the wires and lines that hold them and control the sails.
Standing rigging, which is fixed, holds the mast up (shrouds, forestay, runners); running rigging, which moves, hoists and trims the sails (halyards, sheets). The type of rig (fixed, rotating, wing or canting mast) is one of the major design choices of a boat.
