Rotating mast
Also called: Mât rotatif, mât tournant
A mast that turns on itself to line up with the sail, for a cleaner airflow.
A fixed mast disturbs the air reaching the mainsail. By turning it so that it continues the sail, the rig forms one continuous, more efficient profile. Rotating masts are standard on racing multihulls, where the section is often elongated.
