—Born in Geneva in 1986, Justine Mettraux first sailed on Lake Geneva with her father. Around the age of 16 she took sea training courses in Brittany and Hyères, which gave her a taste for offshore racing, and she trained at the Geneva regatta training centre. She also studied at the Vaud teacher-training university. In 2011 the sponsor TeamWork allowed her to start in the Mini 6.50 class. She finished second in the 2013 Mini-Transat in the production category, then raced the Solitaire du Figaro (3rd rookie in 2016, 7th in 2017) and the 2017 Transat Jacques Vabre in Class40 with Bertrand Delesne. In 2014 she was selected among the Team SCA candidates for the Volvo Ocean Race, and sailed the 2014-2015 edition as crew. In 2018 she raced the Transat AG2R with Isabelle Joschke (10th). She was named Swiss sailor of the year in 2019. She moved to IMOCA in 2021 with 11th Hour Racing Team alongside Simon Fisher (2nd in The Ocean Race Europe, 3rd in the Rolex Fastnet Race). In 2022 TeamWork bought Jérémie Beyou's former Charal and entrusted it to her; she placed 7th in the 2022 Route du Rhum, then 6th in the 2023 Transat Jacques Vabre with Julien Villion. She started her first Vendée Globe on 10 November 2024 and finished 8th on 25 January 2025 in 76 days 1 h 36 min 52 s, making her the fastest woman in the race's history, a time certified as a women's record by the WSSRC. She is an ambassador of the Magenta Project, which promotes women's sailing. - birth_date
