Upwind sail area
Also called: Surface de voilure au près
Sail area carried when the boat sails towards the wind: mainsail and headsail.
Upwind, the boat carries its mainsail and an upwind headsail (a jib, often a J1 or J2). Upwind sail area gives an idea of the boat's power into the wind. Compare it with the downwind area, which is much larger.
