Gust
Also called: Rafale, rafales, gusts, risée
A brief increase in wind strength above the average.
Forecasts give a mean wind and gusts, often 30 to 50% stronger. Sail is set for the gusts: a boat over-canvassed for a gust risks a broach or breakage.
