Trade winds
Also called: Alizés, alizé, trades
Steady winds blowing towards the equator, from the northeast in the northern hemisphere and the southeast in the south.
Trade winds come off the flanks of the subtropical highs and blow steadily over thousands of miles. They are the highways of transatlantic races to the Caribbean: long days downwind under a big gennaker.
