Morgan Lagravière
Biography
Born on 23 May 1987 on La Réunion, Morgan Lagravière began at the top level in Olympic sailing, racing the 49er first with Stéphane Christidis (7th at the 2007 world championship, 4th at the 2007 European championship, reserve for the 2008 Games) and then with Yann Rocherieux.
He then moved to the Figaro Bénéteau circuit: in 2011 he sailed his first Solitaire du Figaro, finishing 8th and top rookie, then 2nd in 2012 and 3rd in 2013 with a stage win. He joined the Safran set-up in 2014 to succeed Marc Guillemot and in March 2015 became skipper of the foiling IMOCA Safran II.
He started the 2016-2017 Vendée Globe, his first, but retired after 18 days with rudder damage while running 4th. Without a new sponsor, his plan to return to the Vendée Globe did not materialise. He stayed in IMOCA alongside Isabelle Joschke in the 2019 Transat Jacques-Vabre (cut short by a grounding) and returned to the Figaro: 2nd in the 2018 Transat AG2R with Sébastien Simon and 2nd in the 2019 Tour de Bretagne with Gildas Mahé.
He then joined Gitana Team, with the Jules Verne Trophy in sight aboard the Maxi Edmond de Rothschild. In IMOCA he won the Transat Jacques-Vabre in 2021 and 2023 with Thomas Ruyant, and in 2025 with Jérémie Beyou aboard Charal.
