EPIRB
Also called: Balise de détresse, balise, Argos, PLB, Cospas-Sarsat, 406 MHz
A beacon that sends the position of a boat or sailor in distress by satellite.
An emergency beacon (EPIRB for the boat, PLB for the person) transmits on 406 MHz to the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, which alerts rescue centres. Offshore racers carry several, including a personal one on them.
