Biography
Armel Tripon was born in Nantes on 11 August 1975. He learned sailing at the Glénans centre, where he was an instructor for three years, then moved into the Mini 6.50: in 2003 he won the Transat 6.50 from La Rochelle to Bahia.
He then moved to the Figaro (Gedimat partnership, 2004-2010), followed by Class40 and Mach 40. In 2014 he took over an IMOCA and finished 4th in the Route du Rhum.
In 2016 he bought the Multi50 Actual, racing as Réauté Chocolat, and won the 2018 Route du Rhum in Multi50. In 2020 he launched a scow IMOCA designed by Sam Manuard, L'Occitane en Provence, finishing 11th in his first Vendée Globe in 84 days, 17 hours.
He then raced the Ocean Fifty Les P'tits Doudous (5th in the 2022 Route du Rhum) and had an IMOCA of the same name built from recycled aerospace carbon fibre, launched in June 2025. He finished 12th in the 2025 Transat Café L'Or with Tanguy Leglatin.
