Lifting keel
Also called: Quille relevable, dériveur lesté, quille rétractable
A keel that can be raised into the hull to reduce draft.
A lifting keel slides vertically in a case. It gives access to shallow harbours or reduces drag on some points of sail. Heavier and more complex than a fixed keel, it is rare on recent offshore racers.
