Biography
Anna Corbella i Jordi was born in Barcelona in 1976 and was already sailing with her parents at the age of four. She studied in her home city and graduated in veterinary medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. A dinghy sailor, she won the Spanish 420 championship in 1999 and the 470 title the following year, then turned professional in 2009.
She sailed the solo Mini Transat from Fort Boyard to Salvador de Bahia, finishing 13th. The next year she teamed up with Britain's Dee Caffari for the 2010-2011 Barcelona World Race aboard GAES Centros Auditivos: the first all-female crew in the race, they completed the circumnavigation in about 102 days and finished sixth, nine days behind the winners.
In the 2014-2015 edition she raced the same boat with Gerard Marín and took third place in about 91 days, despite a knee injury that left her co-skipper sailing the boat alone for several days. She thus joined Dee Caffari and Ellen MacArthur as one of the only women to have sailed non-stop around the world twice.
Her awards include the silver medal of the Royal Order of Sports Merit in 2011, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation's regatta of the year 2010 and a special mention at the 4th Women and Sport Awards 2010.
