Deck
Also called: Pont
The surface closing the hull on top, where the crew works the boat.
The deck closes the hull and makes it a watertight volume. It carries the deck gear: winches, clutches, tracks, rig attachment points.
On recent offshore racing boats, most manoeuvres are done from a sheltered cockpit, and the foredeck is only visited to change sails.
