Penalty
Also called: Pénalité, pénalité en temps, time penalty, pénalisé
Time added by the jury to a boat's elapsed time for breaking a rule.
In offshore racing, the most common sanction is a time penalty: a few minutes for an early start, hours for entering a forbidden zone or missing equipment. It may have to be served at sea (stopping for a set time) or added to the finish time.
