Hull material
Also called: Matériau de coque, construction, matériau, aluminium, bois, acier
What the hull is made of: carbon, glass fibre, composite, aluminium, wood or steel.
The hull material sets the boat's weight, stiffness, strength and cost. Offshore racing boats are almost all composite, most often carbon, sometimes glass fibre in budget-capped classes.
Aluminium, wood and steel are mostly found on cruising or expedition boats, and on former racing boats that have been converted.
