Hull type
Also called: Type de coque, nombre de coques, architecture
How many hulls the boat has: monohull, catamaran or trimaran.
Hull type is the first design choice for a boat. A monohull stays upright thanks to its keel ballast; a catamaran (two hulls) and a trimaran (a central hull and two floats) thanks to their width.
It decides which class the boat can race in: IMOCAs, Class40s and Figaros are monohulls, Ultims and Ocean Fifties are trimarans.
